Why I'm Running for Congress | Mark Lamb on Freedom, Border Security, and Arizona's Future

June 06, 20265 min read

I had the opportunity to speak at the Arizona Federation of Republican Women Summer State Meeting. As I looked around the room, I was reminded once again why I have so much hope for our state and our country.

The women in that room were engaged, informed, and passionate about protecting freedom for their children and grandchildren. In many ways, they represent the backbone of the conservative movement in Arizona.

I left that meeting feeling encouraged, and I wanted to share a few thoughts directly with you.

I Never Planned to Run Again

After my campaign for the U.S. Senate and my retirement as Sheriff of Pinal County, I honestly believed my time in elected office was behind me.

I returned to the private sector. I focused on my family, my business, and building the next chapter of our lives.

People kept asking me if I was going to run for Congress.

My answer was always the same.

"No."

But as the months went by, I couldn't ignore what was happening in our country.

I couldn't ignore the direction Washington was taking us.

I couldn't ignore the conversations I was having with everyday Arizonans who were worried about the future their children would inherit.

Eventually, I realized something.

Sometimes public service is not about what you want to do. It's about what you feel called to do.

Silence Is Not an Option

When I was making the decision to run, I found myself thinking about George Washington.

After leading America through the Revolutionary War, Washington was ready to return home and live a quiet life. Yet when the country needed him, he stepped forward once again.

One of his most powerful statements was:

"With the conviction of the importance of the present crisis, silence in me would be a crime."

That quote stayed with me.

Because I believe we are living through an important moment in American history.

The decisions we make today will determine whether future generations inherit freedom or government dependency.

Whether they inherit opportunity or decline.

Whether they inherit the Constitution our Founders gave us or a government that believes it knows better than the people.

I believe silence is not an option.

America's Greatest Threats Are Coming From Within

For years, Americans have been told to fear threats from overseas.

The reality is that many of the challenges threatening our future are already here.

We see it at our southern border.

We see it in a federal government that continues to spend money it doesn't have.

We see it in the national debt that now threatens future generations.

We see it in bureaucracies that continue growing while delivering fewer results.

We see it in politicians who put their own careers ahead of the people they were elected to serve.

As Abraham Lincoln warned, America will not be destroyed by a foreign army.

If we fail, it will be because we failed to defend the principles that made us strong.

That is why I believe Washington desperately needs more accountability and more leaders with real-world experience.

The Attacks Won't Stop Me

Anyone who runs for office quickly learns that politics can be an ugly business.

Over the past several months, my family and I have faced attacks, false accusations, and endless attempts to distract from the issues that matter most.

I've learned something important through all of it.

If you are willing to stand up and fight for what's right, criticism comes with the territory.

I can handle attacks directed at me.

What I will never accept is the effort to drag family members into political fights.

My wife and I remain grounded by our faith, our values, and the support of people across Arizona who know who we are and what we stand for.

The truth always matters.

Character always matters.

And in the end, people can judge a person by the life they've lived and the principles they've defended.

Freedom Requires Responsibility

As a sheriff, I spent years responding to some of the worst situations imaginable.

One lesson law enforcement teaches you quickly is that risk can never be eliminated.

It can only be prepared for.

Good people prepare.

Families prepare.

Communities prepare.

A strong nation prepares.

Whether we're talking about public safety, border security, economic stability, or protecting constitutional rights, preparation matters.

Government cannot solve every problem.

Washington certainly cannot solve every problem.

Strong families, strong communities, and responsible citizens remain the foundation of a free society.

What Matters Most

People often ask me why I'm willing to go through another campaign.

The answer is simple.

I already have many of the things that matter most.

I have a wonderful wife.

I have children and grandchildren I love.

I have a home and a life I am grateful for every day.

What I want now is not another title.

What I want is freedom.

Freedom for my family.

Freedom for your family.

Freedom for future generations of Americans.

That is worth fighting for.

God, Family, Freedom

Throughout my career, I have tried to stay focused on a simple set of principles.

God.

Family.

Freedom.

The Constitution.

Those values guided me as Sheriff of Pinal County.

They guided me during my Senate campaign.

And they continue to guide me today as I seek the honor of serving Arizona's 5th Congressional District in Congress.

I believe America's best days can still be ahead of us.

But only if good people are willing to stand up, get involved, and fight for the country they love.

Thank you for your support, your prayers, and your commitment to Arizona and America.

Together, we'll continue the fight for freedom.
